Our Daily Test.

I was called to substitute for Pain Pepper, who was sick. As I sat in the classroom, every student was quiet and focused upon their work. 15 & 16 year olds? That just doesn't seem possible, does it? And to beat it A it was on Friday afternoon during the last period of the day. And to make matters worse, it was Math. Yet they were as good as gold. As much as I would like to take credit for this apparent miracle, I had nothing to do with it. You see, they were taking a test.

At first there was the usual whispernig, giggles and assorted noises that students make to get attention and approval from their classmates. But it wasn't long before reality set in and the realization dawned on them one by one - "this is a test ... this is going to count on my grade!" Now, whatever their motivation, each student ultimately wants a good grade. So they got serious and went about their work. I love substituting on a test day!

We, just like the students in my class, are taking tests, but ours are on a daily basis. Unfortunately, we too often fail to realize the importance of these tests. Instead of focusing on the test before us, we notice the multitude of distractions that life and Satan throw at us. The kiddos in Math class didn't like taking their test, and neither do we. We sometimes cry, "It's not fair!" or "Not again, we just had one!" or some other similar complaint. But the test is there and we have to take it.

What should be our attitude toward the tests that we have to take? 1 Peter 4:12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; James 1:3-4 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

I personally believe that God is pleased, when we, realizing that a test is upon us, focus upon the task at hand and do our best to pass and get a good grade, or in this case, God's approval.

Those children were quiet and serious as they were taking their test. And when it was over, every one of them hoped they did well. But all of them grew a bit just by takng the test. And so do we!
