Robert's Reflections

Last Sunday someone handed me a list of some Church Bulletin Bloopers from the Ann Landers column. I thought you might enjoy some of them. Read them carefully though.

1. Don't let worry kill you-let the church help.

2. Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our church and community.

3. The rosebud on the pulpit this morning is to announce the birth of David Alan Smith, the sin of Rev. and Mrs. Julius Smith.

4. Thursday, there will be a meeting of the Little Mothers Club. All wishing to become little mothers, please see the minister in his study.

5. This being Easter Sunday, we ask Mrs. Lewis to come forward and lay an egg on the alter.

6. A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.

7. Tonight's sermon topic will be "What is Hell?" Come early and listen to our choir practice.

8. For those who have children and don't know it, we have a new nursery.

9. The eighth grade class will be performing Shakespeare's "Hamlet" in the church basement on Friday. The congregation is invited to attend this tragedy

10. New choir robes are badly needed, due to the addition of several new members and the deterioration of some older ones.

It is to laugh as we look at some of these fairly severe mistakes. I know I make my share of them both in talking and in writing Your patience and understanding are needed.

There are a few lessons to be learned from mistakes that we make.

1. Everybody does it. There are no perfect people, so all will make mistakes.

2. We must be quick to encourage and slow to ridicule.

3.Communication is not an exact science. We have to be careful to fully express ourselves. And even then reconize that we can be misunderstood. We can just as easily misunderstand.

4.Try to give people the benefit of the doubt when they try to tell or write something. They are in the same boat we are in.

5.When we make a mistake, admit it. We won't be less important or special. We will in fact be more human and approachable by other imperfect humans.
