Wisdom

True wisdom comes from God. James 3:17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fiuits without partiality and without hypocrisy.

The wise men came from the East to see the newborn Christ. (people tend to assume there were three because three gifts were mentioned). These and many others throughout history have come to be known as wise men. A question comes to mind; "What made them wise?"

Solomon was known as the wisest man that ever lived. Let us listen to his advice on what makes a person wise.

1. They fear God (Proverbs 1:7).

2. A wise person respects authority (Proverbs 1: 7; 13: 1).

3. They fear and depart from evil (Proverbs 14:16).

4. A wise person will listen to counsel (Proverbs 12:15).

5. They control their tongues (Proverbs 10: 19; James 3:6-8).

6. A wise person will try to bring souls to Christ (Proverbs 11:30)

7. A wise person will hear and obey the Word of the Lord  (Proverbs 9: 10; Matthew 7:24-27).

To sum it all up, a wise person knows what is really important. Proverbs 4:5-7 "Get wisdom! Get understanding Do not forget, nor turn away from the words of my mouth, Do not forsake her, and she will preserve you; Love her, and she will keep you. Wisdom is the principal thing, Therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get under- standing."

There is one more very important truth. Solomon may have been wise, but he did not always listen to that wisdom. A person must make use of the wisdom of God for it to do any good. Be wise and obey.
