A defense attorney was cross-exammmg a police officer during a felony trial. Q. "Officer, did you see my client fleeing the scene? " A. 'No sir, but I subsequently observed a person, matching the description of the offender, running, several blocks away.' Q. "Officer, who provided this description? " A. 'The officer who responded to the scene." ?. 'A fellow officer provided the description of this so-called offender. Do you trusts your fellow officers?" A.Yes sir, with my life.' Q. " With your life? Let me ask.you this then officer, Do you have a locker room in the police station - a room where you change your clothes in preparation for your daily duties? " A. "Yes sir, we do," "And do you have a locker in that room? " A. "Yes sir, I do." 'And do you have a lock on your locker? " A. 'Yes Sir." Q. "Now why is it officer, that if you trust your fellow officers with your life, that you find it necessary to lock your locker in a room you share with those same officers? " A. you see sir, we share the building with a court complex, and sometimes lawyers have been known to walk through that room."
With that the courtroom erupted in laughter, and a prompt recess was called.
The officer on the stand has been nominated for this year's "Best come-back" line. Do you think he will win?
Politicians and lawyers have come under fire in the news because of the wrangling and political spinning (twisting a story to make your side took better) that has been happening in Florida. While it is true that many lawyers and some politicians are honest and honorable people, it is obvious that something is terribly wrong with our system and the people who are supposed to be upholding our nation's laws.
Regardless of the outcome of "presidential indecision 2000", serious doubts have been created and hard questions are being asked about the credibility of those who rule over us.
God has something to say about all this. Revelation 21:8 "But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexu-ally immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death."
Proverbs 6:16-19 These six things the LORD hates, Yes, seven are an abomination to Him: 17 A proud look, A lying tongue, Hands that shed innocent blood, 18 A heart that devises wicked plans, Feet that are swift in running to evil, 19 A false witness who speaks lies, And one who sows discord among brethren.
Psalm 52:1-5 Why do you boast in evil, 0 mighty man? The goodness of God endures continually. 2 Your tongue devises destruction, Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully. 3 You love evil more than good, Lying rather than speaking righteousness. Selah 4 You love all devouring words, You deceitful tongue. 5 God shall likewise destroy you forever; He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place, And uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
Proverbs 19:5 A false witness will not go unpunished, And he who speaks lies will not escape.
Ephesians 4:25 Therefore, putting away lying, "Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor," for we are members of one another.
