Law, Local logic, Or Likes

Law   (Doctrine)
While it is true that everyone has varying opinions, there are many topics found within the Bible that do not allow for individual opinion. Any such topic is a matter of doctrine, and no one has the right or approval of God to make any changes whatsoever. Some of these topics include, but are not limited to:

1) the deity of Jesus Christ,
2) the authority of the scriptures,
3) what to do to be saved,
4) identity of the New Testament church, etc.

Local logic  (Expediency)
There are also matters of expediency dealt with in the Bible. This refers to circumstances and/or situations that would cause a change in order to achieve a desired result. Examples of matters of expediency include, but are not limited to:

1) Paul's advice to abstain from marriage [1 Corinthians 7:1, 25-28],
2) the admonitions concerning eating meat [Romans 14 & 1 Corinthians 8],
3) local customs [ICorinthians],
4) even the definition of modest clothing is a matter of expediency.

Likes  (Opinion)
Some topics covered in the Bible, however, fall within the realm of opinion. On any such topic, one person's opinion is no more binding than any other. For example; Jesus told His disciples to go into all the world and preach the gospel to every person. That is a command, and must certainly be obeyed. But the means of going is a matter of opinion, as is how long a person stays in a particular place. Another example of opinion concerns celebrating "Holy Days" or as we would call them holidays. Some choose to celebrate, and some choose not to celebrate. Both have an opinion and neither is wrong in this case [Romans 14:5-6] .

Often one will find, upon examining the particulars, a merging of all three: Doctrine, Expediency and Opinion. It is therefore advisable that one proceed with caution in the study of any topic or text, thereby avoiding hasty interpretations and jumping to improper and erroneous conclusions.
