Proverbs 17:6 says, “Children’s children are the crown of old men; and the glory of children are their fathers”. On the first Sunday after
Labor Day those “crowns” get the opportunity to honor their grandparents in a special way. We can honor our grandparents in a number of different ways but if we really want to please them, how about some things that would truly make a difference in their lives.
Let’s try to stay in touch and visit on a regular basis. Let them know how important they are to you by your words and your interaction with them. I guess what most grandparents, especially Christian grandparents, want more than anything is for their children and
grandchildren to love the Lord and to belong to Him. Flowers are good and taking them out to dinner is good too but the best gift a grandparent could ever receive is the joy and comfort that comes from being a faithful child of God. The knowledge that generations
to come after them will be taught about the God and Savior of the universe. They want their children, grandchildren and generations to come to follow them into Heaven as children of God.
So, buy them the flowers and reserve the table at the restaurant, but to make them truly happy why not have three and even four generations sit together at worship and praise the God that made salvation possible and celebrate the chain of faith that binds us together in Christ. Thank God for grandparents!
