Enthusiasm is defined as “An exultation of soul; strong excitement of feeling on behalf of a cause or subject.” It comes from a combination of two terms, “En Theos” or “God within.” If God is in us we will be enthusiastic concerning His work and His church. Someone else has defined enthusiasm as, “crystallized energy taking form.” It manifests itself in our diligence, fidelity and cheerful effort. While our Christianity is not emotional to the exclusion of reason, neither is it intellectual to the exclusion of emotion.
Enthusiasm is a magnetic force. If there is no lack of zeal and faithfulness among members of the church, outsiders will become curious, because no congregation on fire fails to attract attention (Mt 5:14-16). Let us spread this feeling of enthusiasm by encouraging people. Discouragement is an effective tool of the Devil. Express your gratitude to the Elders for their leadership and oversight, Teachers for their service well done, and so many others who sacrifice time and effort in the work of the Lord here at Tanner. Mention to the members how much their example of faith has inspired you. When you encourage people you will become enthusiastic and increase the zeal of others.
We can also spread enthusiasm by speaking in a positive spirit. LOOK FOR THE GOOD INSTEAD OF THE BAD. Positive speaking, which comes from positive thinking can spread enthusiasm. Think in terms of the future (Lk 9:62). Did you ever try driving forward while looking in the rear view mirror? The same type of progress will spread disaster in the church.
Be a builder (1 Cor 14:26). We are to follow after the things whereby we may “edify one another.” Faultfinding, bitter speaking, complaining, does not build but destroys. God looks with disdain upon the dirty little feet of those who go about sowing dissatisfaction and discord (Prov 6:16-19). Let our zeal, our love be manifested through our lives.
