What were people’s reaction to Jesus’ teaching in the day it was given? They were astonished, amazed! What is your reaction to it in the 21st century in your life and in your heart? It’s not enough just to listen to His teachings, but you must also look up to the teacher. It’s not enough to just practice the principles of His teachings, you must practice them because of the one who taught them. It’s not enough to just value His teachings and look at it as a literary masterpiece. As Barns says, “There is no comparison, there is no match for it. In its beauty, in its truth and in its dignity and you will not find one in all the languages anywhere.” It’s not enough to dissect it and look at the structure and to listen to its illustrations, and to see its balance and to appreciate its beauty. It’s not enough! Many will say that the teachings of Jesus are profound, but they will not say that the teacher is great Deity. THE MAGNIFICENCE AND THE POWER OF JESUS’ TEACHINGS REST ENTIRELY, 100% ON ITS TEACHER! It’s not enough to look at them, look at the speaker! It’s not enough to study the sermon without applying it to your life.
What is Jesus Christ to you? He is the king of the Jews, the King of Israel, the King of righteousness, the King of the ages, the King of Heaven, the King of glory, the Sovereign King, the King of kings and the Lord of lords, but do you know Him today? There is no means by which you could measure and define His endless love. He is the Son of God. He is the sinner’s Savior. He is the centerpiece of civilization. He is unparalleled and unprecedented. He is the Savior; but what is Jesus Christ to you?
