Jesus is Above All

“He who comes from above is above all; he who is of the earth is earthly and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.” (John 3:31) John declares in this verse that Jesus is above all and as you will see below, many other verses declare the same. He is above all angels and all men because of the magnificence and splendor of his person. He’s far above every prophet and teacher that came before him in the authority of his doctrine because of his power in delivering it. Not only did he come from heaven to live on earth but he also raised himself from the dead! That resurrection declared him to be the son of God and it eclipsed all who have ever lived or ever will live (Romans 1:4). Therefore; it leaves us in amazement that he has no more followers than he does. How can it be that the whole world has not turned to Him in their quest for finding eternal life? Countless multitudes stubbornly cling to that Old Testament law which brings condemnation and death, not life. How can it be that masses bow their knees before gods of cold stone, brass, gold, and wood which can give them nothing in return for their worship and sacrifices. “The idols of the nations are silver and gold, The work of men’s hands. They have mouths, but they do not speak; Eyes they have, but they do not see; They have ears, but they do not hear; Nor is there any breath in their mouths. Those who make them are like them; So is everyone who trusts in them.” (Psalms 135:15-18).

Here are some reasons why Jesus is above all who ever came before him or will come after, overriding every doctrine and theology devised by the imaginations of men. Because:..

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL IN HIS SOURCE! JOHN 1:1 “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God.” John 8:57-58 “Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?” Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL THE PROPHETS! HEBREWS 1:1-3 “God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high…”

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL THE ANGELS! HEBREWS 1:4-6 “…having become so much better than the angels, as He has by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are my Son. Today I have begotten you’? And again: ‘I will be to Him a Father and Hime to Me a Son’? But when He again brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “Let all the angels of God worship Him.”

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL AS A TEACHER! MATTHEW 7:28 “And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes”. JOHN 7:46 “No man ever spoke like this Man!”

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL IN HIS AUTHORITY! LUKE 4:32-36 “And they were astonished at His teaching, for His word was with authority…… Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, “What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out”. MATTHEW 28:18-19 “And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth”.

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL IN HIS RANK! COLOSSIANS 1:17-18 “And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” 1 PETER 3:22 “Jesus Christ, who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.”

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL IN HIS NAME! PHILIPPIANS 2:9-10 “God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord…”

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL IN REJECTIONS AND WOUNDS! ISAIAH 53 “He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him. Surely He has borne our griefs And carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities… …And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all. He was oppressed and He was afflicted…”.

◆HE’S ABOVE ALL IN HIS LOVE FOR MANKIND! ROMANS 5:7 “For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.”
