Can I Believe the Bible?

The Bible was written by about 40 different men over a period of about 1,600 years dating from about 1500 BC to about 90 AD. These men wrote as they were in- spired of God (2 Tim 3:16-17, 2 Pet 1:20-21). The Bible is the most translated book in the world. It has been translated into more than 1,700 different languages and dialects. The Bible was the first book printed in 1454 and it continues to top the best seller list as the #1 best seller in the world. There are now about 24,000 known manuscripts of the Bible or parts of the Bible, which is far more than the manuscripts of any other ancient writing. The 66 books of the Bible were written in palaces, prisons, cities and in the wilderness, in times of war and in times of peace. It was written in three different languages: Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek. These books were written on three different continents: Europe, Asia and Africa. The prophecies of the Bible are undisputed concerning their detail, accuracy and fulfillment. Yet with 40 different writers over 1600 years on three different continents, there are no contradictions! How do you explain that? They were all inspired by God.

Throughout the centuries the Bible has been attacked by critics, perversion, and abuse. Many have sought to ban and to destroy it. The Bible has been banned from public schools. Satan has tried hard to destroy the Bible, or to cast doubt on the truthfulness of it. In spite of all this the Bible has survived. The Bible is the most amazing book ever! Within its sacred and holy pages is eternal life. The book of James says, “Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (Jam 1:21-23). Not only can I believe my Bible I can depend on it to be my guide in this life and the life to come.
