Can you imagine a small lamb trying to make it on its own without a shepherd? We know that it wouldn’t last very long. It would be just as foolish for us to believe that we could make it without our shepherd. Will you for a moment consider your dependency upon God? We sometimes sing the song “I need thee every hour”.
I need Thee every hour, O I need Thee; every hour I need Thee; O bless me now my savior, I come to Thee. I need Thee every hour, stay Thou nearby; temptations lose their power when thou art nigh. I need Thee every hour in joy or pain; come quickly and abide, or life is in vain. I need Thee every hour; teach me Thy will; and Thy rich promises in me fulfill. I need Thee every hour, most Holy one; O make me Thine indeed, Thou blessed Son.
Do you really believe you need God every hour? Most of us wouldn’t dream of living without our technology, and some are convinced that they need it every hour (even every minute). Imagine doing without TV, cell phone or better yet your internet for a week! These things are not wrong in and of themselves but simply think of the dependency we have on these things. Now ask yourself the question, am I that dependent on God? Think about the following article:
“I wonder what would happen if we treated our Bible like we treat our cell phones? What if we carried it around in our purses or pockets? What if we turned back to go get it if we forgot it? What if we flipped through it several times a day? What if we used it to receive messages from the text? What if we treated it like we couldn’t live without it? What if we gave it to our kids as gifts? What if we used it as we traveled? What if we used it in case of emergency?”
We need the Lord every moment, the question is do we realize that? “The Lord is my shepherd I shall not want.”
