A Picture of Christ

The Good Samaritan in Luke 10 is a stunning allegory of Christ’s unexpected encounter with a wounded and dying soul; a soul without any hope of saving himself. That wounded and dying soul is a reflection of you and a reflection of me.

THE SAMARITAN CAME TO WHERE THE WOUNDED WAS Luke 10:33
The wounded man, being half dead, was not able to go to the Samaritan or anyone else for help. As in this man’s case, we did not go to Christ, but rather Christ left the portals of heaven and stooped down to come to us.

THE MAN IN THE PARABLE WAS DEEPLY WOUNDED, AND HALF DEAD Luke 10:30
This man was in a pitiful condition, but we were much worse. We weren’t just wounded; we were dead. “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins” (Ephesians 2:1-8).

THE SAMARITAN HAD COMPASSION ON HIM Luke 10:33
Christ loved us and gave him- self a ransom. “The LORD is gracious and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy” (Psalms 145:8).

HE BOUND UP HIS WOUNDS Luke 10:34
Christ does more than just bind up and heal our bruises. He restores life to the dead. “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the cap- tives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised” (Luke 4:18). “He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds” (Psalms 147:3).

THE SAMARITAN SET THE MAN ON HIS OWN BEAST Luke 10:34
The Samaritan owned the beast and the seat whereupon he raised the wounded to sit. Those whom the Lord lifts up are also set in his own place. “And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus” (Eph 2:6). “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even M to them that believe on his name” (John 1:12). “For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ… And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed and heirs according to the promise (Gal 3:27-29).

THE SAMARITAN CARRIED HIM TO AN INN AND TOOK CARE OF HIM Luke 10:34
The saved of Christ find shelter and rest. “Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest” (Matt 11:28).

THE SAMARITAN LEFT A PROMISE CONCERNING HIM WHOM HE HAD SAVED Luke 10:35
The Lord has left enough to supply our needs and has left us with great promises. “Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:4).
