Whether you are a babe in Christ or a spiritually mature Christian, you can grow in Christ. There are many ways by which we can grow in the Lord; I’m going to share with you 4 essential steps to move you forward toward spiritual maturity. Though simple, they are vital to building your relationship with the Lord.
Step 1 – READ YOUR BIBLE: Find a Bible reading plan that’s right for you. A plan will keep you from missing anything God has written in His word. Also, if you have a plan it will get you in the habit and can make it easier to read the Bible through in a year. We sometimes say that we don’t have time, but we can make time for the truly important things in our lives, so we can have time if we consider reading the Bible important. Some say “I just can’t understand the Bible”. There are so many tools like a Bible concordance, Bible introduction books, Bible survey books, dictionaries, survey books, etc. that can help us. The easiest way to grow spiritually is to make reading a priority.
Step 2 – CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP: This is one of the main reasons we attend worship services (Heb 10:25). By doing so we receive teaching, fellowship, encouragement, and we grow closer to the Lord in our worship. The 1st century church did this (Acts 2:42-47). Participating in the Body of Christ is fundamental to spiritual growth.
Step 3 – GET INVOLVED: The Lord’s church offers many ways to serve and to minister. Pray and ask God where you should get involved. It’s the ones who get involved that find their purpose and grow’ in their faith.
Step 4 – PRAY REGULARLY: Talk to the Lord each and every day, and several times a day. Pray for others in need. Pray for direction, and for strength. There is no limit to prayer! You can pray with your eyes closed or open, while standing or sitting, kneeling or laying on your bed, anywhere, anytime. So begin to make prayer a part of your daily routine. May we all as individuals and as a church family continue to grow in Christ (2 Pet 3:18).
