Isn’t Prayer Amazing! Sometimes I wonder, even as Christians, if we realize that prayer does indeed change things. “The effective prayer of a righteous man avails much” (Jam 5:16). Prayer for the sick is not a substitute for medicine, prayer for food is not a substitute for work, and prayer for those who are lost is no substitute for sharing the gospel, but those things are no substitute for prayer either. However; because we pray, some are well who would still be sick (Jam 4:15), some are saved that would be lost (Rom 10:1), and some doors of opportunity are open that would still be closed (Col 4:3). So many more things are accomplished by fervent, sincere prayer in this world than we could ever imagine, and yet so many more would be accomplished if we prayed more. “You have not, because you ask not” (Jam 4:2).
Isn’t Prayer Amazing! God commands us to pray. “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thess 5:17). “Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving” (Col 4:2). “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be known to God” (Phil 4:6). The greatest of all privileges (to talk to God) is not only allowed, it is commanded and expected.
Isn’t Prayer Amazing! Great things happen because of prayer. What a privilege it is to “come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need” (Heb 4:16). Yet, many of us pray so little! THAT IS THE MOST AMAZING OF ALL!
