We Remember

As we celebrate our National Holiday tomorrow we know as Memorial Day, we might do so by going out of town on a short weekend trip, camping, food and recreation. However; we would do well to reflect on why we have this day and the sacrifices that have been made by so many to give us the freedom that we enjoy as Americans. Surely we realize that we are the most blessed Nation on earth! Our freedom and privileges that we have as American citizens can be so easily taken for granted. Therefore, may we ever be mindful that our freedom came at a price and is sustained at a price.

Memorial Day was started to remember the great sacrifices so many have made for our freedom. When our children ask us why we’re off work and what Memorial Day is; then the memorial has served half its purpose. It is then our responsibility to complete its purpose by telling them the reason why we have this day. If you have never taken the time to tell your children or your grandchildren about the price that was paid for our freedom let me encourage you to do so tomorrow. Memorial Day is not just a holiday, and it’s not just a long weekend it’s a chance to teach our children. It’s one generation’s responsibility to teach the next generation.
